Since the Ajax Waterfront spans almost 6km, strategies for protecting the shoreline looked different across the project area. Analysis of the entire shoreline identified 12 naturally separated areas that could be treated individually. These areas are called "reaches". Reaches were identified by: shoreline orientation, bluff height, erosion rate, erosion risk to amenities, and public usage. The project team tailored concept designs to provide the most benefits to each reach. However, proposed designs are only preliminary options, and only reaches 3 and 5 have been identified as urgently needing erosion control protection.
